Work can be a source of purpose and connection, but it can also be one of the main causes of stress. Deadlines, long hours and constant demands can take a toll on energy and focus if we don’t have space to recover.
Some level of pressure is normal and can even help us perform better. The problem starts when it becomes constant. Over time, this can lead to fatigue, low motivation and eventually burnout.
Recognising stress at work
Everyone experiences stress differently, but some common signs include:
Feeling tired or overwhelmed most of the time
Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
Becoming more irritable or withdrawn
Changes in sleep, appetite or motivation
Small steps that make a big difference
Take short breaks away from your screen or workspace
Prioritise your workload and ask for help when needed
Keep communication open with your manager or colleagues
Make time to move, breathe and reset during the day
Leave work at work when you can — rest helps you recharge
